A Pair of Arrests Following Heathrow Irritant Spray Incident
Two more people are now in custody related to a robbery at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people were injured by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, as stated by law enforcement.
A man, 24, was taken into custody in Lambeth on suspicion of theft and assault and a woman, 23 was detained on suspicion of conspiring to commit a robbery. They both remain in custody, the force said.
The arrests follow a probe into an attack at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the attack, a pair of female travelers had stolen from them their luggage upon exiting a car park lift.
A toddler aged three was one of the injured in the event. Five people were taken to the hospital for treatment and were later released.
Police detained a man in his thirties for suspected theft and assault close to the location. He was subsequently released pending further inquiries as the investigation proceeds.
Police were called at approximately 08:10 GMT following reports of a number of individuals injured by an irritating chemical thought to be pepper spray.
The assault - an event that police said was isolated and not being treated as terrorism - caused delays to rail services and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the T3 parking facility for a short time.
